Scotnet POP-User Maintenance Help
These screens allow you to maintain your anti-spam information as well as determine your password and to send yourself test emails. These operations require you to know your pop/sop mail-box number together with your password.
If you cannot remember your password you will need to telephone our support
line for help.
The user management features include:
- View log of accesses. With this button you can see recent accesses to your pop box. This will include - recent incoming mail, recent attempts to access your pop box. Finally the current size of your pop mail box is displayed. Please note that in the interests of efficiency we only show recent accesses to your box - not the last access. Thus if you last looked at your pop mail box 2 weeks ago you will NOT see a record of this in the "view pop log" option.
- Send a test email. This sends a basic text message to your pop account. It can be helpful for debugginga newly set up account, or after you have reconfigured your system.
The following 3 options are only available to those customers who have purchased our anti-spam facilities. Please note that we may not offer anti-spam on all accounts.
- Edit Address Book. This button allows you to view and/or modify the addresses in your "white-book". These are addresses of people or system that you trust not to send you spam mail. The window you are presented with has full cut/copy/paste editing available, so you may save your list to another application, or update your list by pasting the data into this window. The format of the data is one email address per line.
- View Headers. This option allows you to see email that is "on hold" awaiting an acknowledgement that it is not spam. In some cases you may desire to see the effectiveness of the anti-spam system, or to pick up an email from an automated source. On finding an email you wish to have delivered click on the matching "deliver now" button. The process of delivering one of these messages will automatically add the address to your white-book of trusted users.
The mesages are presented by date of receipt order. Three fields are shown for each email - the claimed sender, the claimed subject and the claimed date of sending. Since you could be looking at spam mail you should not rely on any of these fields!
- Edit Message Text. This option is for experts only. After reading the manual pages for mapSoN you may wish to modify the text in the outgoing messages. Take care. If you damage or corrupt the format of this message all of your email could go missing, with no warning.
